Salvador family: Is Maja indifferent towards her clan?

By | May 18, 2011

It’s said that the biggest local showbiz clan could be the Salvadors. Their patriarch was the first Olympian basketeer turned actor-director Lou Salvador Sr. After his stint as member of the national basketball team sent to the Olympic Games, Lou became an actor and better known as producer-megger of movies and stage shows, particularly at the Manila Grand Opera House.
Subsequently, his children followed suit. From the late Leroy Salvador, an accomplished actor-director, the late Lou Salvador Jr. (James Dean of the Philippines then), Chona Sandoval, Ding Salvador, the late Ross Rival, and the famous action star Phillip Salvador rose to fame. The Salvadors of the current gene-ration include Leroy’s character actress-daughter Deborah Sun, Ross’ late son Jonjon Hernandez who met an untimely car accident in the ‘90s and his daughter Maja, the current promising star under ABS-CBN who banners Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin.
Undoubtedly, Maja happens to be the most controversial of the Salvador clan. This could be gleaned from the fact that as a showbiz tyro then, she didn’t disclose to the pen pushers that she’s a Salvador by blood. Only when Maja’s dad Ross divulged the truth that Maja finally opened up. She reasoned out that she grew up, not known to the Salvadors. “Natakot ako na baka di nila ako kilalanin,” Maja was quoted as saying then.
On the contrary, the Salvadors, specifically, Phillip, accepted Maja mirthfully. Ipe later was credulous in admitting, “I’m proud of Maja, mabait na bata at magaling na aktres.”
If before Maja seemed indifferent to her dad’s side relatives, nowadays, there’s no more wall that segregates them. As it is, on her special occasions, they would grace the events and vice versa.
As Ipe chuckled, “up there my father would be all smiles as Maja continues to live up to his legacy in showbiz.”
Bong, Lani Upset by Jolo-Jodi issue
A confidante of Sen Bong Revilla and Cong. Lani Mercado passed to us this news that the two have been upset lately. The persistent rumors that their son Jolo has been romantically linked to married actress Jodi Sta. Maria annoy the couple. Being attached to Bong and Lani for so many years, we’re not surprised at all. Ever since, they won’t abrodicate their proper parental guidance to their children. Though Jodi allegedly broke off with her husband who’s the son of Sen Ping Lacson. The ill-talks would sow more intrigues for Ping is Bong’s peer in the Senate.
We were told that that Bong and Lani sat it down with Jolo for verification. As Jolo explained too in a TV interview, his closeness with Jodi ignited at the set of their recent TV series Noah but merely supportive to each other’s problems, nothing more. Jolo reportedly did swear to his parents there’s no covert for him to keep under wraps. That Jolo feels sad for Jodi, what with the gossip-mongers ignore their denial of more than friendly relationship.
In any case, we believe that Bong and Lani comfortably take Jolo’s words. Their son has never feigned what’s truly inside him since his childhood days and always vocal about his love life.
Contrasting Santacruzan scenarios
May time ushers in month of merriment, fiestas and the festive santacruzan atmosphere. The latter reminds us of contrasting scenarios involving showbiz personalities. The first was a very pretty actress noted for her suplada image. One time, she was invited to be the Reyna Elena in a posh santacruzan in Cavite. Before it started, she caught the ire of a gay spectator, out of her ascorbic tongue. A heated altercation ensued which led to the gay to pull her hair and nearly undressed her, if not for the rescue of her company.
We wrote an item about it based on the reports of our source. Days later, we got an attorney’s letter from the actress’ handlers. That we would be sued in court if we wouldn’t retract the said item. Unperturbed, we went to a colleague who was a bosom chum of the actress to show the actual shots of that incident given by our source. A proof that it wasn’t a fabricated story as alleged by her legal counsel. That we would be forced to publish the photos for concrete evidence. The threat of a libel case fizzled out. But we were banned from the actress’ TV network . Ah, that’s part of the travails of being truthful to one’s profession.
A macho actor-pal once related to us his initial meeting with a sexy actress, his long time crush. This occurred when he was the consort of her in a Metro Manila santacruzan. With a hanker to befriend the actress, he exerted efforts to be nice, supportive to her. In vain tough for until she left the place, the actress displayed lackadaisical attitude to him, much to his chagrin.
In their second time around, the duo had been paired in a TV series. Just the same, she gave her a cold treatment till the show was about to end. The actor admitted though not a bit did he lose interest and admiration for her. All throughout the tapings, he showered him with pleasantries. About two weeks after their last taping, the actress unexpectedly called him up to meet somewhere which elated him to the hilt.
That was the time the actor saw the other side of the actress, a far different from her condescend act before. She even apologized for her indifference to him, brought about by a severe family problems. To make it short, the actress developed a strong fascination for the actor’s resilience and kindheartedness. For years now, they’re inseparable as lovers in complete harmony.
Ara: “Cristine, Rayver ‘s Marriage rumor A Big Joke”
Ara Mina laughed off the rumors that Cristine Reyes and Rayver Cruz secretly tied the knots. Just like Rayver and Cristine who broke into laughter as they denied it in TV interview, Ara simply giggled, saying a big joke of a kibitzer spread like wildfire. Ara stated that her sis has priorities which do not include marrying this early. But Ara admitted that Rayver has influenced the change in Cristine. “Alam mo naman yang sis ko, dati matigas ang ulo at impulsive. Rayver’s character, being cool, gentle oftentimes , rubs on her. Sweet na, kontrolado ang sarili. Thanks to Rayver.” Ara theorized.
Whatever Happens to PDA Finalists?
The rabid watchers of the TV talent search show Pinoy Dream Academy wonder whatever happens to its finalists won by Yeng Constantino. While Yeng makes a name as concert artist, the others went back to oblivion, except for Jay-Ar Siaboc who’s in the cast of the TV series Imortal. Well, heard something from Iya Ginez who was referred to as the prettiest and a beauty queen material by the judges.
In a chat with her dad Arnel who’s a politician from Pangasinan, Iya does well as the soloist of a band in Guam. She has also recorded an album there. After her PDA stint, her career at ABS-CBN didn’t burgeon. So, Iya chose to try her luck in Guam. To quote her avid fan, “sayang , sa ganda at talent ay star material sana. Why did Ch. 2 take Iya for granted?
By the way, PDA season 3 looms soon, so we heard. A number of half breed Pinoys from abroad have already auditioned.
A Negative Reaction on KC
Pinoys elucidated once more their crab mentality attitude That was when KC Concepcion was called by the host of a popular US TV where she was a mere spectator. Perhaps the host was informed that KC was a celebrity back home. Some Pinoys uttered disparaging remarks like trying hard ‘at papansin si KC.’Actually, KC projected herself so well on the interview. An instant promo too for the Philippines. In fact, the Americans in the audience threw a round of applause for KC. She should be cheered, not criticized by others.
