ABS-CBN JOINS “FILIPINOS MAKING WAVES “BANDWAGON

Philippine giant network ABS-CBN through it’s the Filipino Channel (TFC) will join the downtown Toronto celebration of “Filipinos making Waves Festival“ (FMWF) at the famous Dundas-Yonge Square on August 18/2012.
Now on its 6th year, organizers of the biggest free-to-the public event and festival showcasing the varied culture of Filipinos have signed an agreement with ABS-CBN officials recently making the partnership a formality.
Teresa Torralba, festival overall director led the signing ceremony recently along with Marco Amoranto, ABS-CBN managing director and witnessed by Rosary Escano, marketing specialist, Mario Marasigan, sales manager and Rizza Flores, regional marketing head. All from ABS-CBN.
This is the first time that the giant television and radio leader in the Philippines will be participating in the festival,. Torralba said this is a growing recognition of the Filipinos Making Waves Festival (FMWF) as one of Toronto’s leading “cultural event “that is geared towards promoting heritage awareness among expats but more importantly among young Filipino-Canadians who are in constant search of knowledge about their elders’ homeland.
Because of the making waves festival, Torralba said many of these young people have learned so much about the Philippines especially about music, dance and many other cultural and historical aspects that otherwise they cannot learn somewhere else.
As its initial offering, ABS-CBN will send one of its leading singing stars, Jed Madela to perform at the August 18 event which will include a parade, food booths, sales and cultural displays and exhibitions.
The festival is the only Filipino summer event that charges no entrance fees to its shows and has since become a “breeding ground “ of homegrown Filipino-Canadian musical talents that comes from as far as Montreal and Winnipeg.
It is also fast becoming as a “must see and attend “ annual fun event for young people of Filipino parentage as well as other
multicultural youths who enjoys the universal appeal of sound and music and dance.
Already, the “Filipinos making Waves Festival “ has become an annual fixture at the now iconic Dundas –Yonge Square, a melting pot in the heart of Toronto.
The festival has a youth component, the Youth Waves which is
hosting a whole day affair the next day, August 19,2012 at the Exhibition place.
