SHARON STILL on contract with TV5

By | March 17, 2013

While in a series of concert in U.S., words ran fast that Sharon Cuneta would leave TV5 to return to the Kapamilya network. Now, back in the Philippines from a successful concert tour where she got encomium from her splendid performances, Shawie clarified several issues.
That she has up to 2016 at TV5 as stipulated in the contract.
Very soon Shawie will start a new drama anthology at the kapatid station. And she is not at loggerheads with bigwigs there. Nevertheless, Shawie doesn’t deny that oftentimes she’s in contact with Kapamilya top brass Charo Santos.
“It’s because Charo is a long time friend. What we talk about has nothing to do with showbiz matters. We haven’t lost our mutual trust, respect and compassion for each other.” Shawie intimated to close writer-chums.
About KC Concepcion who had joined her in the U.S. concert, she neither confirmed nor denied that KC called it quits with her French lover Pierre Plassart, a film maker.”I always support KC whatever decision she does. Kung saan o kanino siya happy, ok lang sa akin..” Shawie was quoted as saying.
Herbert Laughs off Rumors
Encompassed with gossips here and there since the election campaigned ignited, QC mayor Herbert Bautista doesn’t seem to enervate him. He simply laughed it off. Foremost of which falls on the words spreading that he gave tidy sum to those planning to run against him, just to back out.
“In the first place, wala akong malaking mga pera para suhulan ko sila. Look, I’m now producing a comedy movie Raketeros. Thanks to my loans for I don’t have enough money suitably needed to finish the film.” Bistek snorted to my informant.
Another folderol gossip which amused rather than irked Bistek had dragged Vic Sotto’s name. That Bistek did a Herculean job to convince Vic to quit the QC mayoral race. In a chat with Vic, Bistek learned that Vic didn’t intend to try politics, much more so to compete with Bistek. That their friendship would never be a helter-skelter.
In a lighter side, Bistek has obsequious comments about the cast of Raketeros, headed by Ogie Alcasid, Janno Gibbs, Andrew E, Dennis Padilla, Rufa Mae Quinto, Janice de Belen, Cherrie Pie Picache. They’re all riotous off and on cameras. That there’s no dull moment at the set.
Trivia:
In film making, China, Japan, South Korea clobbered local movies n the ‘60s in the international level. However, the emergence of the new breed of directors had bounced back strong Filipino flicks in the ‘70s. The helmers were Ishmael Bernal, Lino Brocka, Celso ad Castillo and Peque Gallaga.
Beforehand, Bernal came out with award winning films, locally. Yet he established a world class impact in his masterpieces, Nunal sa Tubig, Manila by Night and Himala, all of which gained universal plaudits. The most notable was Himala which won accolades in European, Latin American and U.S. film fests.
This begun at the Berlin Film Festival where Nora Aunor garnered the best actress trophy. Eventually, Himala became one of the all time favorite movies abroad. That decade later CNN handed Nora the recognition of Asian Actress of All Times in U.S. for that opus.
At first, Brocka was a publicist-stage director of the famous PETA theatrical group. This writer, in retrospect, befriended him during the time he would bring press releases about PETA at my office, Philippine Daily Star then One time in brisk Brocka told me that Lea Productions gave him a directorial break in Wanted: Perfect Mother, a Dante Rivero-Boots Anson Roa starrer.
Subsequently, his movies Tinimbang Ka Nguni’t Kulang, Tubog sa Ginto ,Santiago, Ina, Anak, Kapatid, to name some, catapulted him as A-1 film director, with trophies from the FAMAS and Urian Awards. Internationally through several film fests abroad, topped by Cannes Film Festival in France, Brocka’s works Insiang, Jaguar and Oro Pro Nobis made Philippine movie industry a byword among foreign judges, critics.
Too bad, Brocka’s untimely demise in a car accident aborted more triumphs for local movies. Still, to this date his favorites ex-actress Lolita Rodriguez, Hilda Koronel, Christopher de Leon and Phillip Salvador hold him in high esteem. That if not for Brocka, they wouldn’t have achieved their documented prowess in acting.
From comedy stuffs, Castillo had distinguished himself an all around megger, be it drama (Tag-ulan saTag-araw), action (Asedillo, Daluyong at Habagat), historical (Julian Makabayan), bold (Pinakamagandang Hayop sa balat ng Lupa, Isla) and even horror genre (Patayin sa Sindak si Babara) all of which were acclaimed locally and in the foreign shores.
Not so long ago, Castillo departed yet his accomplishments fully recognized through tributes to him by people in the know in the showbiz world.
Gallaga created a milestone of sorts as the first Pinoy helmer to initiate a totally bold pic done very artistically which won kudos locally and worldwide. The vehicle was Scorpio Nights with frontal nude scenes of Orestes Ojeda and Anna Marie Gutierrez not for youngsters but uncut for its artistry, apropos for mature audiences. The said film was well received all over the world.
Another victory for Gallaga came via a historical movie titled Oro, Plata, Mata, the movie debut of Joel Torre which paved the way for his best actor trophy and the distinction of being one of the most versatile actors hereabouts.
ABS-CBN VS Mel?
By the time this issue comes out, GMA-7’s true to life drama anthology Magpakailanman will be aired anew. Its TV host Mel Tiangco allegedly mouthed these words when asked by a colleague if she plans to dramatize her bio.
“If that happens I’d reveal the most painful part in my life.Yun ay ang pang-aapi, panlalait sa akin ng taga ABS-CBN when I was still there. Pero hindi ko gagawin ha, baka ma-demanda pa ako.”
Granting it was true, did Mel utter those feelings in jest? In any case, an insider from the Kapamilya network reportedly retaliated. “O sige, if Mel does it eh baka ilabas namin ang skeleton on her closet.”
Ah, will the ABS-CBN VS Mel scenario loom in offing? That’s anybody’s guess, mind you.
MTRCB Summons TV5
After GMA-7, Ch. 2, MTRCB has summoned too TV5 for gender sensitivity and decorum inquiry over Wowowillie episode. That was when Willie Revillame castigated over the air co-hosts Ethel Booba and Ate Gay. Nothing new for Willie had done that act in his past shows.
Appellate court Turns table on MTRCB
In another case, the Appellate Court through Associate Justice Rosemari Carandang found the MTRCB 3 month suspension, P100,000 penalty on T3 Kapatid Sagot Kita (TV5 show of Erwin,Raffy and Mon Tulfo brothers) much too harsh for the violation.
As stated,” unwarranted and effectively constituting prior restraint akin to a single-strike policy which creates an inspiring oppressive broadcast media environment rather than one which is tolerant, open and constructive.”
The case was the aftermath of Mon Tulfo’s publicized affray with Claudine Barretto, Raymart Santiago at the airport.
