“Oh, what a beautiful day today, isn’t?”

Talking about the weather as a conversation breaker is undoubtedly sinking into the psyche of the newly-arrived immigrants coming to Canada.

Here in Toronto, the haven of multiculturalism, conversing about the weather is slowly becoming part of these immigrants’ daily routine since they are now experiencing the country’s different seasons.

Although some immigrants find it weird to initiate a conversation using the weather as a starting point, they cannot help it. As they talk about the weather, their small talk will eventually veer towards touching on the beauty of living this city life; thus, they finally find joy in chatting about the weather.

Little by little, these immigrants are readying their minds and heart, adapting their lifestyles to the change of seasons, especially regarding wearing clothes, jackets, and shoes that fit the weather.

Just the other day, the temperature in Toronto was 14C; it was pretty sunny and windy. When I got into our apartment’s elevator, I met an old man there, and upon seeing me, he said, “how is your day? Have you enjoyed the weather outside?” I responded,” Well, yes, we have a perfect weather today, and I hope you’ve enjoyed your day too?” “Oh, yes, that’s one of the best weather conditions I’ve experienced this year,” he said.

As the elevator reached his floor, he said,” O, good day, see you later.” Talking about the weather is an excellent conversational piece because the surrounding temperature affects people’s mood; if they can see and feel the good weather, their life disposition is also changing.

People cannot help it talking about the weather, especially if they live near the Lake and are surrounded by trees and trails that lead to the deep forest surrounding Toronto.

Day in and day out, people walk on these trails, be they alone, with their companions or their dogs, and some use their bikes to go around these trails to enjoy the beauty of nature and its fresh air. Before leaving their homes, it’s a must to know the changing weather for the whole day, to ensure that they wear the right clothes, jacket, shoes and other accessories.

The weather is an essential part of our daily living; today’s technology has changed how people know about the weather through their watches, phones, tablets, computers and weather channels showing weather prediction hour by hour.

These devices accurately update the weather for the whole week. Every morning, as you meet people on the streets and greet them, “hello, good morning, it’s a good day today, isn’t it” –and indeed, you can hear them responding, ” Oh yes, it’s good weather today; have a good day too.****
