KIM BEATS ALL ACTRESSES BELOW 40

By | August 2, 2013

Judging from the published reports of the BIR on the top five tax payers in showbiz below 40, Kim Chiu makes it on the list as no. 3. The other four are Manny Pacquiao (no.1), Piolo Pascual (no. 2), John Lloyd Cruz (no. 4) and Ryan Agoncillo (no. 5). This means, Kim beats all the famous young actresses at the Kapamilya and Kapuso networks.
Perhaps Kim would keep mum on the issue that she’s the richest actress below 40. Yet many have been astounded by her big earnings based on her taxes, clobbering the likes of Bea Alonzo, Anne Curtis, Judy Ann Santos and Kapuso Prime Time Queen Marian Rivera.
Possibly, Kim’s being an in demand as an ad endorser, aside from her TV shows and movies command huge fees that in totality haven’t been duplicated by her peers. Or shall we say that Kim was simply honest in her declaration of earnings unlike her colleagues?
Ryan Richer Than Judy Ann
Still on the BIR reports. Contrary to what many have in mind that Ryan Agoncillo basks on the fame and fortune of his wife Judy Ann Santos, the fact that Ryan has made it to the top five unlike Juday who didn’t make to the list, showcases that he accumulates more wealth than Juday.
It’s apt to say that Juday herself will be proud of her husband. Specifically. Those who belittle Ryan would think otherwise, much to the sanguine reaction of Juday. After all, she has been vocal from way back that she found the right man no regrets for marrying him.
Incidentally, heard that an indie film producer eyes to cast Ryan and Juday in a movie which deviates from their previous starrers.
Trivia:.
Did you know that in the ‘60s, German Moreno was the first to host a weekly showbiz TV variety show called Germs Especial? His co-hosts were young showbiz upstarts, mostly doing musical numbers. Eventually, Kuya Germs put up a daily evening TV show That’s entertainment.
Every day, the program had a set of different teen co-hosts from various movie companies. With pride, Kuya Germs cheerfully recounted that two internationally known celebrities were among the products of her show. Namely; Lea Salonga of Miss Saigon fame who won best actress award in London and its Broadway version Tony Award also that earned Lea a world-wide popularity.
So with Billy Crawford who later became a singing sensation in Europe, particularly pushed up by top selling albums. This led Billy to be a cover boy of showbiz mags in Paris and London which ushered in a lead role in a Hollywood horror movie. Both Lea and Billy are still active locally.
The late Inday Badiday then became a controversial showbiz talk show host via Nothing but the Truth. Her gimmick to guest celebrities and movie columnists to debate on certain issues created furor which subsequently paved a way for its folding up. However, Inday hosted another TV talk show Would You Believe which wasn’t shoddy but less in intrigues, with movie writers and a celebrity every airing. It was aired up to Inday’s demise.
The initial TV showbiz program hosted by a movie journalist was Seeing Stars with JQ, with the famous deceased Jose Quirino as emcee. He was followed by movie columnist the late Justo Justo through Etsos Lang. For the record, JJ coined the gay showbiz words commonly expressed by the gays and girls that time.
Among the words JJ invented were etsos lang (joke only), matuk mo (can you take), wanakosay (I’ve nothing to say), kiyeme (a bluff), datung (money) and dyowa kuno (fake partner) Then the tandem of Alfie Lorenzo and the late Billy Balbastro rose via Facts, Rumours, & Humor, with this writer as one of the field reporters in the said TV show.
GMA-7 successfully aired too Star Talk, with the original hosts Boy de Guia and Lolit Solis, focusing on the hottest items of the week.
A chance to host my own TV show tapped me through Ch.4’s Movie Scenes, a daily 30-minute program taken on and off the set of a film. One time, beauty queen-actress Maria Isabel Lopez suggested that for a change, why not a bedroom interview with her on hot items.
Obliging on Isabel’s request I didn’t expect that episode would be the last to be aired. Many had thought it created an infraction with the policy of the Movie, Television, and Radio Classification Board (MTRCB). Actually, the real reason could be attributed to the bitter rift of the producers of the show causing to put it off’.
Ch. 5 that period came out with its own showbiz talk show titled Isang Tanong, Isang Sagot (IT IS), with writer-pro Aster Amoyo as the regular host.
Interestingly, the only program which remains on the air to this day is Star Talk. Lolit maintains her hold with new co-hosts Joey de Leon, Ricky Lo and Butch Francisco. Of late, other programs are The Buzz (Boy Abunda, Toni Gonzaga, Charlene Gonzales) ,Showbiz Inside Report (Janice de be Belen, Carmina Villaroel and Joey Marquez) and German moreno’s Walang Tulugan which makes him the most durable showbiz host.
Remembering Ruben
After many years, this writer was given a chance to meet anew one of the journalists most admired and held in high esteem Ruben Cusipag. When I applied to be a columnist of Balita, his wife Tess accepted me. One time, Tess invited me at their digs in Markham.
Seeing Ruben with a warm smile truly gladdened me. For we had a contrasting plight in the early days of Martial Law in the Philippines. Out of his doughty and highly principled stand as a journalist , he was put to jail by the Marcos administration. While that time I was among the first batch of writers approved by the Marcoses to write again. I was hired columnist of the only newspaper then Daily Express Publications.
So I told Ruben tongue-on-cheek, “akala ko galit ka sa akin. Kasi ipinakulong ka ni Marcos, ako naman tuta niya.”His loud laughter truly showed his good nature, didn’t emasculate our friendship. That Ruben remained a nice person, didn’t mind at all my preference and accoutered with a fair judgment to anyone.
Sadly, in Ruben’s demise I was in Calgary to visit my son, his family. Yet unable to attend his wake and burial, goes my heartfelt gratitude and prayers for him as ever. Up there in the Kingdom of God, I know you’ll be assiduously watching ,guiding your family, loved ones, friends, Balita newspaper and the Filipino communities in Canada as well.
Is Marian Jealous of Bea?
Aside from the talks she’s pregnant which Marian Rivera laughingly denied, she ‘s irritated of the words spreading that she gets jealous of the newest leading lady of her bf Dingdong Dantes, no other than Bea Alonzo. Allegedly since the filming of the duo’s Star cinema movie, Marian feels insecure of Bea’s closeness with Dingdong.
“Gosh, isa si Bea sa hinahangaan ko sa Kapamilya network. And I know lovebirds sila ni Sanjoe Marudo. Why should I feel jealous of her? Bea, like me, is happy with her lovelife.” Says Marian who seems non-committal on the rumour that she maps out plan to transfer to the Kapamilya station, so with Dingdong.
Juicy Tidbits:
Despite BB Gandanghari’s denial that he has AIDS, his detractors still tongue wag about it. But BB’s unaffected, saying he has hospital records to prove he merely suffered from a urinary tract infection and dehydration due to fatigue. “Masaya nga dahil commonly found in girls ang UTI ko. This means, babae nga ako.” BB giggled to writer-pals.
Gabby Concepcion’s chum did hush-hush that he’s all willing to have a bonding time with his daughter Cloe by ex-wife Jenny Sequia. Cloe and Jenny are in the Philippines at press time. Gabby’s still in US where his wife delivered their new baby. He’s hopeful that upon his arrival in Manila, Cloe would be around.
Most probably for we heard Cloe has joined showbiz through the expeditious prodding of half sister KC Concepcion who’s currently very attached to her.
Yes, Anne Curtis is more popular by leaps and bounds that her younger sis Jasmin Curtis Smith. Nonetheless, Anne admits Jasmin’s starrer Transit for the Cinemalaya Festival makes her quite jealous of her. You see, the said pic gave Jasmin a chance to shoot in Israel and learned Hebrew language.
“She put one over me for I really like to do that kind of film. Anyway, I’m very happy for Jasmin. I do hope Jasmin emerges a big actress for that role.” Anne’s brisk comment when queried.
