Trivia:
Looking back in the past, this writer simply couldn’t forget the famous actors who turned successful political figures. Not only because of their formidable public service but more so, out of my attachment to them. Many times I did feel their sincere friendship elucidated to me.
To begin with, the acknowledged Agimat King of local movies Ramon Revilla Sr. who later gained triumph as senator was my initial actor-politician chum. Before he became political figure, we got acquainted through his late publicist Rudy dela Pena who happened to be my close friend.
Oftentimes, Rudy tagged me along in going to Ramon’s digs in Imus, Cavite. At that, when he ran for senator, together with Rudy and other media men, we campaigned for him which he truly appreciated. Truth to tell, when I was chosen president of Movie Writers & Press Photographers Association of the Philippines, Ramon threw a bash for its officers and members, offered to induct us which was held in Cavite.
Once, Ramon contacted me to invite movie press. His son who studied in U.S. would enplane to the Philippines to try showbiz, none other than Bong Revilla. Eventually, Bong became of the young top action stars and like his dad had been synonymous to action flicks with amulet titles.
Later, upon his entrance as Cavite governor candidate and his actress-wife Lani Mercado a mayoral bet too in Bacoor, Cavite, the couple hired me as pro. The reason upon their victory, I spent most of the time in Cavite. These incidents remain unforgettable to me about the duo’s unexpected assistance.
On hearing that I was hospitalized to undergo surgery, Lani not only visited me but handed a check to assist in the hospital bills. In the case of Bong as senator already, he didn’t tell he had a talk with Canada’s consul general in the Philippines. Someone informed that my Canadian visa was rejected. Thus, the consul finally approved on Bong’s request.
The consul impacted to me. “You should be thankful to Bong. He’s my pal so I believe what he said about you.” All the more I’ve valued my deep friendship. So on my vacation in the Philippines after years in Canada, I dropped by at his Senate office. As ever, Bong invited me in his family event that day.
Two other personalities I always vividly remember are senator Lito Lapid and Batangas congresswoman Vilma Santos. Prior to her task as Batangas congresswoman, Vilma was Lipa city mayor. In an event there I personally graced over the mike, she introduced me, saying, as a child actress, she met me as a veteran veteran writer already. Later I cackled, “binisto mo naman ako na matanda na, “ This led her to laugh But why I treasured Vilma, as president of MOWPPAP she aided me with checks. She knew the club’s consistently used its funds for the bed-ridden and out of job media men.
In passing, the early politicians from movie world were movie idol Rogelio dela Rosa who won a Senate seat, siblings Fred Montilla and Rudy Francisco who were Q.C. councilors. Of course, the most successful was Joseph Estrada. from years of San Juan mayor turning senator emerged the President of the Philippines.
Liza Rejects Anew Beauty Pageant
Just like in the past, Liza Soberano quashed off news she’ll join beauty pageant next year. While it’s true she has all praises to the beauty queens, she has no intention to be one of them. In truth, Liza felt so disgusted of her fake media account. That after the failure of Rabiya Tores to bag the Miss Universe tilt, next year she’ll join Bb. Pilipinas Universe.
Instantly, Liza publicly stated it didn’t come from her, a false account for that matter. With audacity, she asserted being an admirer of Rabiya. For her, the latter still makes her countrymen proud of her.

Controversies Engulf Miss Universe Pageant
One of the trending controversies in the twitter accounts about Miss Universe 2020 was about Miss Bulgaria Radinela Chusheva. She frankly commented that Miss Mexico Andrea Meza does not deserve to win. Out of it, Mexican fans sent irate feelings for Radinela. But she didn’t apologize for saying so.
Curiously, among Radinela’s faves to make it to the finals were Misses Colombia, Costa Rica, Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines and her choice to win Miss Canada Nova Stevens. Vilma Comments on Luis’ Political Plan
On the news that by October, Luis Mazano would be in the list of candidates at the 2022 elections, a colleague relayed something to me. In a conversation with actress-politician Vilma Santos, her son Luis has neither confirmed nor denied it. In truth, Luis hasn’t mentioned it to her.
“In the past, no such political entrance happened to Luis. Pero kung mag-materialize this time I’ll fully support him. I believe my son has sincerity to serve the public.” Vilma was quoted in saying.
