The publicized drug case of ex-bold actress Deborah Sun and the first time together of Maja Salvador, Janella Salvador and Jobelle Salvador in the current TV drama-horror series Bride Killer put to the fore anew the famous Salvador clan in showbiz which started in the early ‘50s.
Before the patriarch of the Salvadors the late Lou Salvador Sr. became a noted actor turned in demand film director in the ‘50s, he was a known basketball player, member of the first Philippine Basketball team that vied in the Olympic Games. Eventually, Lou opted to concentrate in direction. Among his successful directorial job was the blockbuster costume-fantasy Dose Pares headlined by love teams then Mila del Sol-Jaime dela Rosa and Delia Razon-Mario Montenegro.
Lou’s first son to carve a name in showbiz was the deceased Leroy Salvador, a versatile character actor who romped off with acting awards, topped by Asia’s best supporting actor trophy for Biyaya ng Lupa at the Asian Film Festival held in Tokyo, Japan. The plot revolved on the travails of lanzones plantation, fully shot in Laguna. Leroy’s co-star Rosa Rosal garnered too the best actress plum.
Later, Leroy’s daughter Jobelle joined showbiz although she didn’t focus on her movie career. After decades being inactive, Jobelle made an acting comeback via the TV series Killer Bride. Of course, another Leroy’s daughter took the limelight through bold starrers, none other than Deborah Sun who’s Jean Louise Salvador off screen. Every now and then she appeared in movies and TV shows. As it is, Deborah cropped out in the news with her drug user-pusher case.
Then the late Lou Salvador Jr. rose to incomparable fame as a teen actor, what with his resemblance to Hollywood top actor then James Dean. In Lou’s starrer Bad Boy, he emerged the James Dean of the Philippines which was recognized abroad. Unfortunately, he had a brief movie profession for he opted to stay abroad and subsequently prioritized to be with his wife and kids up to his untimely demise.
Next to follow suit in the Salvador clan was the considered handsomest, toughest of the Salvadors Philip Salvador. Prior to his movie life, Philip was a basketball player and the coach of Siena College female basketball team. We got acquainted that time for my daughters were students at the said school. The more our closeness when Philip transformed into one of the country’s top action stars.
Leroy and Philip’s sibling Chichi who was better known as Ross Rival tried showbiz albeit briefly. However, his daughter Maja Salvador turned famous and one of the most talked about due to controversies seemingly synonymous to her. Much more so out of her unusual, eerie delineation of the major character in Killer Bride.
If anything, Maja disclosed she’s happy to work for the first time with her relatives Jobelle and Janella, The latter’s dad Juan Miguel Salvador is Philip’s singer –cousin. Obviously, Janella inherits his belting prowess. In passing, Maja, Jobelle and Janella share the sentiments of Phillip about Deborah. They are willing to assist financially Deborah’s family. Sadly, they can do nothing on her Court case.
Going back to Lou Sr. his three daughters became actresses the late Chona Sandoval, Alona Alegre and Mina Aragon. In passing, Chona had a short-lived movie career. While Alona shone brighter as sex symbol. She embarked as movie producer and film megger as well prior to her death. In her time Mina was one of the most popular contract stars of Premiere outfit. In her first pic I Believe she tackled the lead role which paved a way for her fame until she quit showbiz.
A Hollywood Break For Gloria Diaz
In the Insatiable Season 2 Hollywood TV series by Netflix which has started airing this October, our very own first Miss Universe turned actress Gloria Diaz has a special appearance. Reports have it that she reaped praises from Netflix people and those who viewed Gloria in the scene where she wore an awesome, stylish white outfit in every inch like a queen.
Last May, Gloria confirmed to writer-chums that she accepted a role in the said series. Recently, she recalled how thrilled, excited she was to work with Dallas Roberts and Debby Ryan. For sure, Gloria will be noticed by other foreign producers, with offers for her to loom.
Incidentally, the plot of Insatiable Season 2 revolves on a teenage girl who works hard to be a beauty queen to seek revenge on her bullies.
What Awaits Daniel-Kathryn Pair in 2020?
With the record breaking result of Kathryn Bernardo’s starrer with Alden Richards Hello, Love, Goodbye what awaits her tandem with Daniel Padilla before the year ends and in 2020? A reliable source affirmed that ABS-CBN management has no movie yet but a new boob tube series taps the duo which will be telecast early 2020.
However, their diehard followers are either in pins and needles or hugger-mugger if there’s semblance of truth to the talks Daniel has proposed marriage to Kathryn to transpire next year.
