COCO CHALLENGED BY DEREK

By | February 15, 2013

While it’s a foregone conclusion that Coco Martin projects the newest TV super hero via Juan dela Cruz which has gained tremendous viewership, don’t disregard Derek Ramsay who’s TV-5’s Kidlat. It’s currently a top rater of the Kapatid station as evident by more commercial load in the tele-serye.
Reliable sources recounted that during the Sinulog and Dinagyang festivals in Iloilo, the float of Kidlat was literally mobbed by kids, shouting Kidlat to Derek.
As Derek confided to the scribes during the thank you bash tendered by TV5 for Kidlat. Wherever he goes he’s called by that name.
“It really touches me. Iisa ang ibig sabihin, popular na ang TV series ko. I’d like to thank too the critics who openly remark that Kidlat’s stunts and costumes are world class.” Derek snapped.
However, not diffident, Derek’s words on Christine Reyes turned most efficacious to pen pushers.”I’ve to be frank. Di ko na-feel na may gusto sa akin si Christine. So I didn’t court her. That’s factual. It’s ok we’re just mere friends.”
New Kapuso Star Reprimanded
Now Bela Padilla, the star of Kapuso network’s Magdalena got a dose of her own medicine. At the presscon of the said program, some scribes led by the outspoken Lolit Solis virtually reprimanded her. It was the aftermath of Bela’s alleged snubbing of local writers during the GMA-7 regional base confab in the Cagayan de Oro city.
At first, Bela who was the host of the mentioned confab denied the accusation .But Lolit clarified that her alaga Mark Herras who was co-host of Bela reported such incident. So much so Bela antagonized the movie press present. In tight spot, reportedly Bela excused herself, at nag-lock daw sa ladies room.
Oh well, Bela can easily win back the fourth estates by no folderol alibi. Rather act sincere in expressing apology especially to those she offended. That is, if she still wants a rapport with the writers.
Trivia:
Yes,Dingdong Dantes and Maja Salvador belong to the hottest stars lately. Yet little known to the new generation has something to do with their background. Did you know that Dingdong’s father the late Roland Dantes carved a name of his own also?
In the ‘60s, Roland won Mr. Philippines tilt which led him in the Mr. Universe competition in US where he emerged a finalist. Thus, showbiz beckoned Roland upon his arrival. He appeared in several flicks, notably Cuatro Y Media, with Nino Muhlach, Ramon Zamora, Robert Lee and Ulysses Tzan.
Later, Roland opted to produce a movie purposely to propagate the local Martial Arts arnis internationally. He made Arnis shown abroad ushering foreigners to take a notice then be drawn to it. It so happened that together with Manila Bulletin adman Teddy Hayden Lim, we were the publicist of Arnis which was critically acclaimed too.
Roland put up a gym to encourage youngsters to practice arnis. Most often he was invited to other countries for arnis exhibition. That later on Roland was responsible why arnis had been added as sports at the Asian and Asean Games.
Personally, at the time his son Dingdong had penetrated showbiz I was befuddled why Dingdong never mentioned about his dad. Out of curiosity, I asked Roland why. In confidence then, he admitted to me.
“I got separated from his mom at his pre-teen years and he took it against me, nursing a deep wound which compelled him to turn his back to me. I don’t give up hope that someday he’ll understand and forgive me by recognizing ma as his dad.”
Years later while in Canada our mutual pals relayed the info that Dingdong finally reconciled with Roland. At least, before Roland’s demise, his fervent wish had been granted.
In the case of Maja, her late father Ross Rival belonged to the famous Salvador clan, one of Lou Salvador Sr.’s children and Phillip Salvador’s sibling. A noted lover boy too, I got acquainted with Ross through his ex-gf actress Alicia Alonzo. The late actor Jonjon Salvador was the couple’s son.
In passing, Ross would tell me in jest he was not aware, hadn’t met his other children, with his countless romantic escapades. True to his words, when Maja crashed showbiz, she painfully disclosed she had not seen her dad Ross. Through the initiative of her manager Chit Ramos, Maja not only came across Ross but the entire Salvador clan happily welcomed her.
I do remember what Ross related to this writer in a gathering at Mowelfund Plaza. “Pare, ang saya-saya ko na nagkita na kami ni Maja. I’m really proud of her. With her beauty, talents, I know she’ll make it big in showbiz.”
Now, from the other world, for sure Ross would be happy watching Maja achieving fame, accolades which had eluded him in his lifetime.
Richard’s Movie a Big Disappointment
Sad to hear that Richard Gutierrez’s current pic Seduction with his gf Sarah Labhati was a disappointment at the box office. Others implied it’s a big flop. They surmised the bad publicity generated by Sarah did boomerang on the film itself.
Even if Sarah’s in Switzerland now, the GMA-7 management still filed two cases against her at the Courts, One, for breach of contract and the other for bad-mouthing GMA-7 bigwig’s daughter Annette Abrogar which enraged the latter.
Nevertheless, I’ve the inkling Richard would bounce back strong in his next starrer My Lady Boss, opposite Kapuso Primetime Queen Marian Rivera. Much more so, for the first time Marian does sizzling love scenes with Richard, no less.
No Politics This Time for Cesar
After Cesar Montano’s losses at the Senate race and his mayoral bid in Bohol, he said no to politics this time. He chose to top line and direct an opus about the film-bio of mayor Alfredo Lim. Could this mean Cesar will support Lim in his campaign for re-election over rival ex-pres. Joseph Estrada?
Remember there was a gossip that during his years as president, Erap turned down a request of Cesar that dampened him. But a source divulged to me how Cesar reacted on the said issue. He just grinned, with these words. “Trabaho lang, walang personalan.”
On the bright side, it’s now true that Cesar and wife Sunshine Cruz’s separation looms, caused by a third party, a curvaceous starlet. Reportedly, Cesar has ironed the kinks with Sunshine. So that’s it.
Eula Replaces Nora
In a chat with broadcaster-columnist Romulo Espena, popularly known as Tita Swarding he disclosed that Nora Aunor begged off from the new TV series for TV5. She’s scheduled for another medical treatment abroad that’s why. Eula Valdes will replace Nora.
Tita Swarding added that Judy Santos’ dream to work with Gov. Vilma Santos comes true. Vi agreed to co-star with Juday in a project late this year. Vi’s in thick of filming an indie movie Extra. With mirth Tita Swarding mentioned too that aside from his radio shows at DZRH and DWSS, he has a program based in London studio and can be heard by Pinoys in the United Kingdom through Skype.
Loudest Whispers:
A brewing talk has it that Sharon Cuneta would leave TV5 to return to ABS-CBN. Seemingly, TV5 management ignores such speculation by being tight-lipped. Curious scribes couldn’t reach Sharon as of this writing for she has a series of concert in the US, together with KC Concepcion. It’s anybody’s guess. Mind you.
If Mariel Rodriguez would appear one of these days At Kris TV as Kris Aquino vocally announced her invitation on the air, then there’s no truth to the rumor that she’s jealous of Kris. Heard that when that Mariel informed doesn’t watch Kris’s tele-serye with Robin Padilla, Kris personally invited Mariel. Kris has the hunch Mariel might be jealous of her. Could be because of the intimate love scenes of Kris and Robin in Kailangan Ko’y Ikaw.
While Aga Muhlach definitely can run as Cong. In Camarines Sur, Imelda Papin has been disqualified by the COMELEC in her congressional bid in Bulacan for lack of residency. She suffered the same fate of Phillip Salvador.
