CARLA, TOM; MORE THAN FRIENDS?

By | May 19, 2014

Since the time Carla Abellana broke off with lover-actor for four years Geoff Eigennman, speculations run fast that her friendship with Tom Rodriguez grows deeper. Remember the duo became attached during the taping of their successful TV series My Lover’s Husband, with Dennis Trillo.

More than that, Regal Films paired Carla and Tom in their recent film So It’s You which brought them closer to each other. Truth to tell, as an aftermath of her break up with Geoff, Carla cried on Tom’s shoulders. Tom didn’t deny he’s at  Carla’s side to comfort her. But Tom shrugged off the talks he fetched Carla when she got drunk at a bar.

“It never happened. Wala sa personalidad ni Carla ang maging ganoon. She’s always prim and proper. Pero aaminin ko basta kailangan niya ako, handa akong dumamay sa kanya.” Thus Tom sighed to a colleague of mine.

These past weeks, mutual chums of Carla and Tom seem in quandary to what the real score looms between the duos. Albeit neither Carla nor Tom opened up to their true relationships, their actions speak more than words.

As one confidante of Carla exclaimed, “ I don’t want to conclude yet I can’t help to opine they’re more than friends. There’s nothing wrong if it’s true for both are loveless. “

Whatever, many have given thumbs up for Carla and Tom as possible successor to the Primetime King and Queen of the Kapuso network, currently being held by Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera.

Anne, Sam Patch Up Differences

So finally, Anne Curtis and her sis Jasmine’s bf Sam Concepcion have patched up their differences. Jasmine happily disclosed to the movie press. The three are now in constant communication with each other. Since way back, Jasmine admits Anne’s a protective sibling which led her to think then that Sam cheated Jasmine as he allegedly flirted with Julia Barretto.

“It’s no longer an issue dahil tsismis lang. My sis took the word of Sam on his being a one-woman-man. All’s well that ends well. In fact,  We’ve spent nice time  together. I mean, the three of us.” Jasmine mused.

Trivia:

Did you know from the late ‘40s, basketball heroes invaded Philippine cinema? The patriarch of the famous Salvador clan Lou Salvador Sr. started it. He was member of the first Filipino basketball team that competed in the Olympics.

An inherent lover of acting and directorial arts, Lou got tempted to crash showbiz. On the outset, he tried to appear in several movies. His personal knowledge of a helmer’s path prodded him to stick as movie megger and stage director of Clover theater. Lou’s favorite directorial job was the costume epic Doce Pares produced by LVN Pictures, a blockbuster at that.

In the mid-50s, a handsome basketeer named Carlos Loyzaga created a stir not only in the hard-court but on the wide screen as well. Tagged as Mr. Basketball, Caloy joined the very first Phil team that won a medal at the Olympics Games. Then he starred in a few films prior to concentrating on his business venture.

Nevertheless, Caloy left an offspring to shine too in the flickerville, none other than actress Bing Loyzaga. Bing later married singer-actor Janno Gibbs. To this date, the couple can be seen be it in TV shows or in flicks.

Then several varsity NCAA  players  followed suit, led by Willie Sotelo of San Beda College who was launched to stardom by LVN Pictures in the science-fiction comics serial Zarex. From the Premiere Productions, came MCU basketeers the late Zaldy Zshornack and Bob Soler.

Zaldy became a top Premiere movie idol, together with the deceased Fernando Poe Jr. So with Bob who married FPJ’s sis Elizabeth Poe. Then Ronnie himself built up a group of hard-court stars in a number of movies with him in the ‘60s. The PBA stars were Yoyoy Martires, Francis Arnaiz, Mon Fernandez and Manny Paner. The latter tied the knots with ex-actress Daisy Rumualdez who sired singer-actress Tina Paner.

No Honeymoon Abroad for Jericho, Kim

After their wedding last May 1 , newlyweds Jericho Rosales and Fil-British model-TV host Kim Jones didn’t push through with their honeymoon abroad. You see, Echo’s neck-deep on the taping of his TV drama series Legal Wife, with Angel Locsin. Of course, a blithe Kim accepted it for she’s fully aware of Echo’s dedication to his works.

In passing, their wedding was held at the Shangrila Boracay resort, with three places reserved; Cielo Resto for the cocktails, the garden for the ceremony and the beachfront for the dinner-program. Among the guests were Coney Reyes, Gary Valenciano, his wife Angeli and their children, Jed Madela and Jay-R.

Incidentally, Echo has received an offer to appear anew in an international movie. He’s one of the few Pinoy actors given a chance for major roles in foreign films out of his accolades at the international film fests.

Vilma Cries foul on Nora-Coco Debt Issue

A disgruntled Gov. Vilma Santos cried foul upon being dragged into the Nora Aunor-Coco Martin debt issue. Allegedly, it’s Viima who scattered talks that Nora owes Coco a huge amount of money which she borrowed from Coco while the two filmed an indie movie.

Vilma opined that a numskull would have ignited such a gossip. “I’m so busy with my works as Batangas governor. In truth, out of it, I couldn’t accept invitations abroad to grace affairs. Paano ko pa gagawing magtsismis. Besides,Kami ni Nora sobrang close sa isa’t-isa, with due respect for each other.” Says Vilma. Viilmanians echo that with the news that Vilma’s a strong contender in 2016 for vice president, various demolition jobs against her probably have started.

Eugene’s Starrer Wins Anew in Italy

Eugene Domingo personally accepted the third place trophy in the audience award at the Udine International Film Festival in Italy for her starrer Barber’s Tales. Helmed by Jun Luna, it previously accorded Eugene the best actress award at the Asian Film Festival.

During its screening, Eugene was jumpy at first but couldn’t help but cry when the crowds gave a standing ovation. And some even told her it should have won the top award. For the record, Barber’s Tales is the fourth starrer of Eugene which shone abroad, making her a well known Pinay actress who’s highly respected internationally.

Juicy Items: A half nude photo of Marian Rivera, with her boobs fully exposed at the internet does not affect her at all. Marian believes that people, her followers won’t hearken to it, knowing it’s a fake one. Whoever masterminded her bogus, scurrilous shot won’t succeed in putting her down, Marian exclaimed.

An impervious Nora Aunor shrugged of rumors that she owes Coco Martin a huge sum, saying she’s used to intrigues, no need to elaborate it. What elated Nora was the unveiling last May 10 of her statue built in Poay, Ilocos Norte. It depicts her character as Elsa in Himala, the most awarded Phil movie abroad.

Once again, vet foreign singers  Bill Medley of the Righteous Brothers and Sonny Turner who’s the last original member of The Platters echoed what Patti Austin limpidly remarked before. Those Pinoy singers are the best and top in the world.

Billy who popularized You’ve Lost that Lovin’ Feeling, Time of My Life and Sonny of Great Pretender, Only You fame recently held concerts in the Philippines. Both weren’t surprised every time  Pinoys won in international contests, being so talented, all around performers.

This reminds me that another singer-actor passed the audition for a major role the Singapore musical show Kitchen Musical to be held in Boston. He’s Kapuso actor Steven Silva, winner of the Star struck V tilt. Previously, Christian Bautista and Karylle starred in the first version in Singapore. Perhaps, it’s time for GMA-7 to push up Steven’s career upon his return.

Heart Evangelista simply grinned as she denied that she’s badly affected by the recent marriage of ex-bf Jericho Rosales. Heart confided that she was in good terms with him when they parted ways long time ago. And she’s happy for Echo as he’s also in her smooth relationships with Sen. Chiz Escudero.
