Budgeting for 2010

By | December 31, 2009

Hello 2010!

Another year has gone. A fresh new year is here. For many people, a new year means a new approach to life, a renewed determination to solve continuing problems, a refreshed sense of perspective and opportunities.

And yet for others, it’s another year of torment, another chance to keep repeating strategies that don’t work, and another opportunity to make excuses and let others run his or her life.

To prosper in 2010 and beyond, one needs a different approach. You need to plan your success. Otherwise, others will plan your failure even without you knowing it. Success in every endeavor requires meticulous management of your resources.

Finances

Have you checked your financial health? Have you paid all your bad debts? Do you spend more than you earn? Do you invest your hard-earned money or do you just squander them away?

Manage your finances so you have the necessary funds for daily needs and some left over for investment purposes. Budget your monthly expenses and make sure that you don’t spend more than you earn. Set aside some funds for emergencies. Pay off your bad debts (for example, credit cards) as soon as possible. Credit cards interests remain excessively high. Without proper planning, such bad debt may cripple you and your household one day.

Family and friends

How important is family to you? Do you spend quality time with your children and spouse? When you spend time with them, do you make everyone feel important and happy or do you simply irritate them? Do they miss you when you’re away?

Share your talent, your stories, your skills, your experiences, and your laughter when you’re with your family and friends. Make sure that your moment together is golden — a time that your loved one will cherish forever. Avoid unnecessary arguments or lengthy heated debates about things you can’t even change.

Work

How efficient are you at work? Do you prioritize your most important activities for the day? Or do you quickly visit your Facebook account upon reaching your office or simply chat away with your co-workers?

Work is precious. It gives us unique challenges even as it provides our families food, shelter, education, and necessities. We should love our work and should share our talents, our skills, and our love to those we serve. As well, we should give the management and our co-workers the respect and dignity that they deserve.

Health

Do you take care of your physical and mental health? How many times do you exercise a week? How many minutes a day? What types of exercises are you involved in? Do you watch your diet and your weight?

Physical and mental exercise should keep you healthy. And it doesn’t have to be expensive. You don’t need a costly treadmill or a stationary bike. Designate enough time for simple daily routine such as walking. For instance, 30 minutes of brisk walking three to four times a week may be enough for many people. Also, playing word or board games often may stimulate your brain and keep it more alert and responsive.

Personal and Spiritual Growth

Do you allocate time and money to improve yourself? Have you bought new books or CDs that can help you learn new things? Do you enroll in programs and courses that can improve your life? Do you regularly attend church or spiritual services?

Prioritize personal and spiritual growth. Read self-help, educational books on any topics and attend courses to enhance your knowledge and skills. Aside from the expansion you gain, learning new things can be fulfilling. As well, regularly praying and attending church services can connect you to an Infinite Being — the sole source of wisdom, peace, contentment, faith, abundance and love. . . for free.

Assigning your precious time for loved ones, work efficiency, finance management, holistic health, and personal and spiritual development should be your main concern.  And therefore, time management in 2010 and beyond is a must.

Happy new year to all!
