AGA IN DEEP MOURN

By | June 3, 2018

Trivia:
The unexpected demise of Aga Muhlach’s dad Alvaro ‘Cheng’ Muhlach has left their family in deep mourn, especially Aga. Cheng died of cardiac arrest at the St. Luke’s Medical Center and was laid to rest at the Heritage Park in Taguig City. This writer can’t help but recall my closeness with Cheng and the entire Muhlach family.
To begin with, when I started as the pro of actress –producer Amalia Fuentes under AM Productions, my attachment with her siblings Alex and Cheng snowballed. Both were students at San Beda College. Cheng was the carefree type in contrast with Alex who was serious with his work. Cheng would tag me in get together with his buddies. Later, he appeared in films, with his real name Alvaro Muhlach.
At the height of Alex’s son Nino Muhlach fame as child superstar, Alex and Cheng founded D Wonder Films for Nino. I served as pro too of the outfit. His films were all top moneymakers. The brothers gave the credit to the late Movie King Fernando Poe Jr. who handed Nino the first movie break in Leon at Daga for FPJ outfit.
In many instances, Nino, together with Alex and Cheng graced my invitation not only in Metro Manila but in my hometown San Pablo city in Laguna. Much more so at the burial of my parents, the Muhlachs showed up to condole with my family, attesting to their loyalty.
During the crisis caused by profound misunderstandings between Amalia and her brothers, I kept myself away in the said issue, not siding with Amalia or her siblings. Inside me, I knew that being blood related everything would turn alright for the three, contrary to rumors no reconciliation could patch up their differences.
Truth to tell, at the most memorable day of my life, my marriage with my wife Mer, Amalia, Alex and Cheng not only became part of my wedding entourage but they shared in all the expenses incurred at the church and in the reception, the Muhlachs’ gift to me. To this day my gratitude remains intact.
When the movie idol tag had beckoned Aga, the name of the Muhlachs shone brighter, unbeatable and incomparable. Albeit Aga hired his own talent manager and publicist, Cheng at times asked my personal opinion on Aga’s career. I told Cheng nothing to worry at all for Aga had the best handlers.
Once, prior to Aga’s wedding with beauty queen actress-Charlene Gonzales he queried me if the plan of his aunt Amalia to create trouble was true. My reply that no such thing would occur for she truly loves him like her own son mollified Aga. In fact, a very supportive Amalia attended his nuptial with Charlene that discarded the innuendoes on them.
Days before this writer migrated to Canada almost ten years ago, Cheng called me up to have a bonding moment with him at his digs. We talked on pleasantries, our difficult times and how we survived the
Ups and down in our lives that annealed our characters. He promised too that long distance wouldn’t hamper our friendship.
True enough, we had not ceased exchanging words via face book. Sadly, few days before his death, Cheng sent message that he was doing fine, health-wise that held me on the verge of tears to hear on his untimely passing away. Eternal peace be with you Cheng. My deepest condolences to the Muhlachs.
