2013: A HOPEFUL EDDIE

By | December 29, 2012

With his recent best actor trophy handed during the 55th Asia-Pacific Film Festival for Bwakaw, Eddie Garcia gleams with hope this New Year, 2013. He anticipates accolades to come in Europe filmfests for the same film. And Eddie yearns for another victory. Bwakaw vies for Oscar’s best foreign movie come Oscar’s awards night by February.
“If I’d be recognized in Hollywood and other countries, well I can’t ask for more. At my age and being active in showbiz for more than 60 years, puede na akong mag-retire na fully happy and truly accomplished.” Eddie theorized when queried by a colleague-pal.
About the balderdash talk that lately Eddie manifests an ulyanin na symtoms, he replied with candor. “Siguro kahit sinong ka-idad ko ay may time malilimutin na, at times blank ang mind. But you can ask my director in my new films, TV shows. Modesty aside, take one pa rin ako and can easily deliver long lines, no stutter whatsoever.” Eddie snorted.
Come to think of it. Eddie and Ramon Revilla Sr. are the only survivors of early 50s actors, with the demise of their contemporaries.
Sarah’s New suitor
Someone who professes to be a confidante of Hayden Kho affirmed with aplomb that he reportedly admitted to him he’s courting Sarah Geronimo. In a TV interview, Sarah grinned from ear to ear when that topic surfaced. Her answer was no yet her smile seemed meaningful.
Granting that Hayden woos Sarah, with her impervious by his background, where does it leave her strict parents? With their knowledge of Hayden’s malevolent past, not to mention his losing the doctor’s license, for sure a wall between Sarah and Hayden won’t be far behind, if ever.
Trivia:
At her pre-teen years, Janice de Belen gained fame via various TV series. She appeared in several movies, most notably with top child star Nino Muhlach in Tropang Bulilit which bannered too moppet stars the late Julie Vega, Sheryl Cruz, Lea Salonga and Sen. Bong Revilla’s ex actress-sis Andrea Bautista. This ignited Janice’s closeness with Nino, Aga Muhlach.
During her teen years, Janice vied with Julie as the TV Teen Princess. Janice’s Flordeluna strongly pitted for viewership with Julie’s Ana Lisa. Nevertheless, the duo became closest chums. In fact, Janice turned hysterical, learning Julie’s untimely death then.
After a brief, flippant romance with movie idol Gabby Concepcion Janice crossed path anew with Aga as she accepted an opus with her under Nino’s outfit D’ Wonder Films. Their togetherness blossomed into a serious affair. Aga impregnated Janice. His dad Cheng Muhlach heartily talked it over with Janice, saying Aga was very willing to marry her. But it was Janice who declined, with the plan to hide her condition abroad.
This writer relayed Janice’s plight to my kumpadre Ricky Lo who wrote it in a blind item. Janice felt she was pinpointed so she was forced to publicly announce she was pregnant. Yet knowing I was the publicist of the Muhlach family, she knew I was Ricky’s source. That Janice took it against me by snubbing me every time we bumped into each other.
In any case, Janice’s dad Phillip de Belen who was my officemate at the only publication during the early months of Martial Law Daily Express co.(He was advertising head and from a Pilipino Express staff, I was the entertainment editor of Evening Express), remained cordial to me, being level-headed.
Despite the birth of her son Luigi Boy, Janice’s popularity didn’t go kaput, with her frankness elicited admiration. Janice was besieged with movie, TV offers. Even up to the time she fell in love anew with John Estrada. Though it ended with their parting of ways.
I still recall what Janice mom Susan is told me once about John. “Kahit maraming shortcomings si John, hanga ako sa kanya as a loving, dutiful father sa mga anak nila ni Janice. Kakit ke Luigi na stepson lang niya, itinuring niyang own son. I give John credit for that.”
One time, together with Ricky Lo in a gathering, we were elated when Janice finally greeted us warmly sans any hostility, askance feeling. Indeed, Janice has matured beautifully. Not surprising that she has been consistently picked by ABS-CBN for major TV roles, like her latest Ina, Kapatid, Anak.

Sen. Bong Undergoes Acting Workshop
Did you know that despite his Senate job, Sen .Bong Revilla undergoes a rigid acting workshop these days? Bong matters that he needs it for his next new role in Kapuso teleserye Indio ,his most compelling, serious character so far.
“I’ve to live up to expectations. Gusto kong ibang Bong ang mapapanuod nila dito.” Says Bong who’s all out against the passing of the RH Bill.
Bong insists that contraceptives are no guarantee to control birth and might damage unborn babies. It happened to his wife Cong. Lani Mercado who took pills in 1990.
