Outstanding Canadian Academy Awards 2025 Celebrated 25 Years of National Excellence

The Outstanding Canadian Academy commemorated a historic milestone with the 25th Annual Outstanding Canadian Awards, held on November 16, 2025, at the Sheraton Parkway Toronto North Hotel in Richmond Hill. Marking its Silver Jubilee, the event honoured a quarter-century of celebrating excellence through Canada’s only national awards program jointly supported by both government leaders and the private sector.

Since its founding in 2000, the Academy had recognized nearly 300 exceptional Canadians whose contributions enriched the nation’s cultural, civic, and social landscape. The 2025 ceremony continued this legacy, spotlighting individuals and organizations that exemplified excellence, diversity, integrity, and service to community.

Among the 2025 Lifetime Achievement Award recipients was Dr. Vivian Rambihar, an internationally respected cardiologist whose four-decade career advanced health equity and diversity. A pioneer in identifying ethnic and gender disparities in cardiovascular disease, Dr. Rambihar led one of Canada’s earliest Diversity and Health initiatives at Scarborough General Hospital, promoting culturally sensitive and interdisciplinary care.

In the business category, John Kiru was honoured for his tireless advocacy for small businesses and urban innovation. His leadership at TABIA, along with his service on Toronto’s Committee of Adjustments and contributions to the Music Advisory Committee and Night Time Economy Task Force, helped shape Toronto’s economic and cultural identity.

Caroline Banez received the Community Leadership Award for her decades of grassroots service through organizations such as the Philippine Heritage Band, the Filipino Nurses Association, and the Scarborough Ontario Seniors Association. Her unwavering commitment to seniors, healthcare workers, and community-building left a lasting impact across the Greater Toronto Area.

The 2025 National Honourees—Luzviminda Mazzone of Quebec, Anita Huberman of British Columbia, and Syed Hassan of Alberta—were recognized for their leadership and service that transcended provincial boundaries, reinforcing Canada’s unity, progress, and multicultural strength.

In addition to individual honourees, the Academy presented the 2025 Outstanding Canadian Association Awards to three exemplary organizations: the Scarborough Ontario Seniors Association for advancing wellness and inclusion among seniors; Seniors In Action for championing innovative, dignified elder care; and the Canadian Community Services Organization for delivering essential programs to newcomers and diverse communities nationwide.

Founded by visionary community leaders and led by Chairman Reynaldo Alix, the Outstanding Canadian Academy remained a singular national platform dedicated to honouring those who uplift communities, foster inclusion, and enrich Canada’s multicultural mosaic. Reflecting on the milestone, Alix stated, “Let us carry forward the spirit of this celebration — that together, we build, we uplift, and we remind the world that in Canada, it truly takes a village to make greatness flourish.

To commemorate its 25th anniversary, the Academy also unveiled a special edition book chronicling the inspiring journeys of past honourees—a tribute to a legacy of service, excellence, and national pride.
