Let’s join and give our hands in the “Clean Toronto Together” campaign.
The City of Toronto’s annual Spring Cleanup scheduled from April 19 to 22 this year is a commendable undertaking considering its impact on our community and its environs.
Our families, friends, and neighbours can do our part to help clean up litter in parks, beaches, streets, and other public places.
The city government can only do some of this cleaning in the community. We must do our part, tapping into our volunteer spirit, to make this Clean Toronto Together campaign a big success.
Last year, the City reported that over 1,000 cleanups had occurred across Toronto, with over 70,000 residents and City staff working vigorously.
When I was the president of the board of directors of the YCC 397, 180-plus townhouse in Toronto, we urged our homeowners to do their part in cleaning our complex.
Most of our neighbours participated in this cleanup, knowing that keeping our surroundings clean should be a community effort.
We have this phrase that cleanliness is next to godliness as Collins Dictionary clearly defines it.”
If someone says that cleanliness is next to godliness, they are referring to the idea that people have a moral duty to keep themselves clean and their homes clean “.
For those of us who could not join these cleanups for one reason or another, the little share we can have in this Clean Toronto Together campaign is to avoid littering the streets and sidewalks with cigarette butts, coffee cups, soda cans, plastic and paper bags.
It’s hard to eliminate these ” little” litters if they get mixed up among the various trees surrounding the City. These litters must be manually picked up, which means more people are needed, which is more expensive for the city government.

Corporate 20-Minute Makeover: Friday, April 19
Community Cleanup Days: Saturday, April 20 and Sunday, April 21
School Cleanup Day: Monday, April 22 (Earth Day)
Other Community Cleanup Days: April 19-21.
The Clean Toronto Together has issued the following guidelines:
“ On Saturday, April 20 and Sunday, April 21, community groups, families and individuals are encouraged to visit a local park or other public space to help clean up litter – such as small plastics, cans, bottles and other waste. Taking part is easy:
- Select a public space that needs your help, such as a park, sidewalk, ravine or beach.
- Pick a time that works for you. We recommend a maximum of one hour.
- Register your cleanup to avoid duplicate cleanups at the same location, and arrange for special litter collection, if required.
- Gather supplies for your cleanup – you will need litter bags, gloves, trash grabbers (optional), hand sanitizer, and water/snacks.
- Share a photo of your cleanup in progress – using hashtag #cleantoronto
Safety tips and other guidance will be provided to all registered participants.”
