DANIEL BEATEN BY NEIL

By | March 27, 2013

An officer of the Philippine Movie Press club (PMPC) clarified to me why Daniel Padilla was beaten by Neil Coleta as New Actor of the Year in the recent PMPC Star Awards night. You see, diehards of Daniel expressed lugubrious reaction on his defeat. That in terms of popularity, to juxtapose Neil with Daniel not proper.
“Being more popular is not the basis of the selection. It’s more on the acting capabilities of the actor. In a brief period, Neil has elucidated his competence be it in drama, comedy, musical in the indie films and TV series. Even in the tele-serye Juan dela Cruz, he stole some scenes from Coco Martin as the latter’s comical sidekick.” My informant gave credence to the not namby-pamby choice of Neil.
Meanwhile, Neil already anticipated such inimical response of Daniel’s fans. “Kahit ako nasorpresa when my name was called. But of course, I’m jubilant that my acting has been recognized.” Neil was quoted as saying.
Well, probably this time Neil deserves to be given the lead role in tele-serye by the ABS-CBN management.
Julia Breaks her Silent
With her ex-bf Enchong Dee not among the actors in the 18 roses segment of her much talked-about grandiose debut last March 19, Julia Montes broke her silence.
“Honestly, Enchong wasn’t really included to the actors who would hand me the roses. But he was invited to attend my birthday, contrary to talks I snubbed him.” Thus, spoke Julia.
As of this writing, Enchong hasn’t uttered why he was absent at Julia’s debut.
Trivia:
Perhaps the Davao clan of the local showbiz world can be considered one the most talented yet under-rated families to hit tinsel town. Starting with the patriarch the late Charlie Davao, he rose to fame in the ‘60s as an action star then an in demand character actor.
That time, it so happened that Charlie’s deceased wife Emma Abiera Davao was my Spanish professor at the MLQ University. At that when the couple’s youngest child died in an accident, I got acquainted with Charlie during the wake. Months after, Charlie’s wife departed too, out of melancholia for her kid’s demise.
So much so that when I penetrated showbiz writing, Charlie contacted me for his teen sons Ricky and Bing crashed the movie acting. Both were given breaks, with Ricky having an edge being a star material. While Bing became a most sought after screen villain.
Eventually, I got to know Ricky better at the time I handled the promotions of his starrer, a semi-bold titled Nalalasap ang Hapdi. At the set, Ricky mentioned in passing that his dad Charlie remarried with a beauty queen Mary Ann Inigo who’s the sister of ex-actress-comedienne Cecile Inigo of the comedy Dabiana fame.
Later, at the height of his popularity Ricky tied the marital knots with Pilita corrales’ daughter-actress Jackie Lou Blanco whom he sired beautiful children. Years later, persistent rumors had it that Ricky and Jackie were on the brink of split up.
One time, at the Senate office of Sen. Lito Lapid, this writer chanced upon a sick Charlie. Admittedly, Charlie told me that Lito regularly assisted him financially for his hospitalization, medication. And with confidence too Charlie divulged.
“Oh yes, like other couples, Ricky and Jackie undergo stress, strain in their marriage. But I know sooner the duo would be back to normal relationships.”
True to his words, at the wake of Charlie who succumbed to cancer, I witnessed how Ricky and Jackie inveighed each other, telling the mourners that after the storm in their marriage, every kink was ironed out.
In the recent years, Ricky’s brother Bing remains active as a character actor. Ricky opted to try stage, TV and movie direction, mostly at the GMA-7 network. Just recently, Ricky was the only Pinoy megger chosen to sit as judge at the first Asean Film Festival & Award (AIFFA) held in Sarawak, Malaysia on March 28-30, 2013.
Gloria’s Wish
With the observance of Holy Week days ago, did you know that up to this time veteran actress Gloria Romero considers enacting Virgin Mary her most cherished role? That was in early ‘50s when the late Cardinal Rufino Santos handpicked her to portray Virgin Mary in the Lenten play. Gloria went to confession, regularly received Holy Communion during the entire run of Martir sa Golgota.
Since then, countless blessings beckoned Gloria off and on screen, topped by her being the Movie Queen of showbiz world in the ‘50s.
“That’s why I’ve a wish for actresses. If they will be given the opportunity to tackle the role of Virgin Mary role be it on TV, movies or stage presentation don’t hesitate to accept it. That would be the most rewarding role of a lifetime for them which I underwent indeed.” Gloria voiced out recently.
Christian in at GMA-7; Richard Out?
March 30, 2013 earmarks the welcome bash for Christian Bautista at the Party Pilipinas show of the Kapuso station, Yes, he inked a 3-year-contract there upon expiration of his contract on the Kapamilya network. Christian didn’t elaborate why yet he’s happy with his decision, especially he’ll be belting anew with Ogie, Alcasid, Janno Gibbs, Jaya and ex-gf Rachel Ann Go.
Meanwhile, two months from now Richard Gutierrez’s contract at GMA-7 expires. As of press time, he expresses no plan to renew it. If ever he will be out of the Kapuso station, his gf Sarah Labhati’s altercation with the Kapuso bigwigs could be a decisive factor for Richard.
Marian, Heart Bury the Hatchet
With their ballyhooed bitter affray last year, most anybody thought Marian Rivera and Heart Evangelista would never reconcile as chums, particularly with Heart’s mom aggravating the tiff. But some pen pushers witnessed the duo’s burying the hatchet. The two embraced one another. With their words of willingness to work together in a project again.
Nevertheless, Marian uttered meaningful words to this effect, “Pero paris ng damit na may butas na, kahit tahiin ay may marka na.”A true to form Marian with that kind of patutsada.
As of this writing, Heart faces a very difficult situation. Her parents entrenched over the air their dislike for her bf Sen. Chiz Escudero. They ‘ve upbraided him allegedly of arrogance, bad manners and misconduct. With umbrage though, Heart sticks to Chiz, begging forgiveness, understanding from her parents Joe, Cecile Ongpauco.
Spicy Items:
Could it be true that Billy Crawford leaves Philippines very soon for good? Reportedly, Billy has signed a singing contract with a top European recording outfit. Billy told chums it’s high time to regain his popularity in Europe. Years ago his album there made it to the top which landed him on the covers of showbiz mags. Shall we say goodbye to the Kapamilya network?
Both James Yap and Sen. Chiz Escudero won’t take things sitting down on the accusations of Kris Aquino and Heart Evangelista’s parents, respectively. James claimed that the case file against him by ex-wife Kris could be an aftermath of his refusal to sign the adoption papers of his son Bimby by Kris,
“I’m still his dad, have the right to rear him too.” A tearful James fought back over the air as he implied what Kris threatened. “Remember, 3 years pang nakaupo ang brother ko.”
In the case of Chiz, he blurted out. “Hindi sapat ang wealth ng parents ni Heart para yurakan ang pagkatao ko. Handa naming ipaglaban ni Heart ang aming love sa isa’t-isa.”
Just asking, why did the Ongpaucos do their malevolent act against Sen. Chiz during the election campaign? So that people won’t vote for him?
