At the heart of Chapter One’s success is its High-Impact Tutoring Program, where specially trained Early Literacy Interventionists provide daily, one-on-one instruction to children in Grades 1–3. Using evidence-based strategies and adaptive software, these tutors help each child progress at their own pace, building confidence and skill. Complementing this are Online Reading Volunteers, caring adults who spend 30 minutes each week reading stories, playing games, and sharing laughter with children. These sessions not only strengthen literacy but also nurture joy, mentorship, and belonging — qualities that make learning come alive.
Equally inspiring is Chapter One’s commitment to cultural inclusion through its Co-Created Indigenous Storybooks initiative. Working hand-in-hand with Indigenous education leaders, artists, and language experts, the organization develops original e-storybooks that celebrate Indigenous culture, language, and identity. Each story includes phonetic spellings and audio clips of native speakers, allowing children and families to explore their heritage while learning to read. These storybooks are freely available through the Global Free Library, ensuring that literacy and cultural pride grow together.
