My country is in a very “troubled situation” where its three institutions—Congress, the Presidency and the Supreme Court—are virtually shaking from their foundations because of the massive corruption reportedly being perpetrated by public officials.
Members of Congress, including senators, are alleged to be pocketing hundreds of millions of pesos in kickbacks from flood control projects, some of which were reportedly fraudulent or “ghost” projects.
President Marcos was criticized for being a weak leader of the country. The Supreme Court is said to be ineffective because most of its members were appointed by former President Duterte.
Digging into the roots of these anomalies, some claim that the country’s Constitution and laws are weak in addressing the issues and that there is a need to repeal some of their outdated provisions to reflect today’s realities.
Some government officials even claimed that, aside from being systemic, the corruption has worsened because people have become too greedy.
Others blamed the people themselves for not being intelligent enough to choose the right candidates during election time.
Some claimed that, although corruption is endemic everywhere, at least we are doing something to correct the situation. Feeling that those investigations are not enough, most of our fellow citizens are asking for drastic measures to effect meaningful changes.
Due to frustration, some others are forcing the military to intervene, firmly believing that those civilian public officials now in power cannot resolve these massive corruptions in all branches of the government.
Well, corruption in the government is not limited to the Philippines; in some other countries, there have also been massive cases of corruption. Have you seen the big demonstrations and rallies staged by thousands of people in Nepal, Indonesia, and Thailand recently?
The solutions to these corruptions are not in the hands of imperfect humans.
These massive corruptions and other problems we face in today’s world, such as wars, food shortages, sickness and all sorts of sufferings, are beyond human solutions.
Let’s take a moment to examine what God’s Word, the Bible, says about why we cannot find solutions to all the problems and sufferings prevalent today.
In Jeremiah 10:23, it says, “I well know, O Jehovah, that man’s way does not belong to him.
It does not belong to man who is walking even to direct his step.”
In short, it’s beyond us, imperfect humans, to bring about solutions to these corruptions and hosts of other problems that cause so much suffering among us.
Aside from the fact that it’s beyond us humans to solve the country’s problems, another reason we feel helpless in coming up with lasting solutions to our sufferings is our innate tendency to commit sin or do wrong. Simply said, we are all sinners.
Romans 5:12 says, “That is why, just as through one man sin entered into the world and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because they had all sinned”.
Another reason why governments cannot solve these corruptions is that Satan is the ruler of this world, and it’s no wonder why we can see all the manifestations of his rulership, such as violence, wars, immorality, hunger, corruption and other sufferings, which are prevalent in the world today.
In 1 John 5:19, it says, “We know that we originate with God, but the whole world is lying in the power of the wicked one.”
Very soon, our God, Jehovah, will intervene in the world’s affairs to end all these corruptions and other human sufferings, because He cares for us.
Ps 34:17-19 says “17. They cried out, and Jehovah heard; He rescued them from all their distresses. 18. Jehovah is close to the brokenhearted; He saves those who are crushed in spirit. 19. Many are the hardships of the righteous one, But Jehovah rescues him from them all.
Maybe this is new knowledge for most of us that our God will eliminate all these human governments and replace them with God’s Kingdom, as shown in the book of Daniel 2:44, which says, “44. “In the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be destroyed. And this kingdom will not be passed on to any other people. It will crush and put an end to all these kingdoms, and it alone will stand forever.”
In the famous Lord’s Prayer at Matthew 6:9-13, Jesus was praying for the coming of this God’s Kingdom as shown in these two Bible translations.”
New World Translation: “Our Father in the heavens, let your name be sanctified. Let your Kingdom come. Let your will take place, as in heaven, also on earth. Give us today our bread for this day; and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And do not bring us into temptation, but deliver us from the wicked one.”
King James Version: “Our Father which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come.Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.”
Don’t be disheartened, my dear readers, because we are looking forward to a bright future when Jehovah will turn this earth into a paradise as he promised in Rev. 21:3-4 that says ”
3. With that I heard a loud voice from the throne say: “Look! The tent of God is with mankind, and he will reside with them, and they will be his people. And God himself will be with them. 4. And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.”
